Timber Tax Update: Part II Casualty Losses in Timber: Determining a Deduction Wednesday, March 18, 2009 Forest Taxation Specialist, Mississippi State University This special one-hour tax program is two in a two-part program that provides an update on timber tax to assist landowners and foresters in the 2009 filing season. This presentation explains the role of basis, or investment value, in determining the allowed deductible loss, the role of the consulting forester in establishing basis and assessing loss in fair market value, and the role of the accountant/tax preparer in reporting the loss One hour of SAF CFE Category I credits have been applied for.
